Cleaning up seven years of GitHub
My GitHub profile had accumulated seven years of history: university assignments, competition entries, forks I never touched again, and a handful of projects I'm genuinely proud of — all presented with equal weight. Before building this site, I cleaned it up.
The checklist:
- Delete forks with no original commits. Star the upstream instead — that's what stars are for.
- Archive finished things. Competition entries and coursework are done on purpose; the archive badge says so.
- Write real READMEs for the keepers. A 100-byte README on your best project undersells it more than no repo at all.
- Fill in the About box. It's the first thing anyone reads.
Eighteen public repos became nine deliberate ones. The profile now tells a story instead of dumping a history.
